RoboEpic #5017 Wins “Motivate Award” at FTC Conn. Conquest State Tournament
On Saturday March 3, 2012 the high school team, made up of 8 members (6 in attendance) participated in the FIRST Tech Challenge Connecticut State Tournament, held at Kingswood Oxford School in West Hartford, CT. Going into the event very unsure of the layout and rules of the day, the girls quickly scouted out teams that would guide them through this new experience. Nervous for their round of play, they organized with their alliance team for this round and went on to win their first match. In fact, they won every match! They were in first and second place for the entire day! They went in to the semi-finals seeded second. Picking alliance teams for the finals was unfamiliar for them, and they skillfully chose their two alliance teams based on scouting they had done during the day and final ranking posted after general match play. Although they lost in the semi-finals to some fantastic competitors, the team walked away feeling great about their robot performance, strategy and overall game play. The team won the prestigious “Motivate Award”, which seems to be a trend for our girls, as this award is given to the team with the most spirit, graciousness of game play, and fantastic school and community promotion of FIRST. We are so proud!
